孔子聖蹟圖（孔子的故事）：(廿八)作丘陵歌

孔子周遊列國，最後在衛國待了五年，仍然沒有執政的機會，然而卻出現了回魯國的機緣。從本圖的導覽中，可知孔子回魯的原因，並了解孔子周遊列國後心中的感慨。

此幅作丘陵歌圖，乃周敬王三十七年，魯哀公十二年，西元前四八三年，孔子年六十九歲。孔子由楚至衛，在衛國待了五年，遲遲沒有執政的機運，卻等到了回魯的機緣。據《左傳》上記載，魯哀公十一年，齊國出兵侵略魯國，那一仗魯國季孫兵甲七千人，編成左師由冉求統帥，打了勝仗，事後季康子問冉求，你對軍旅之事，是學來的還是你的本能，冉求答道：學之於孔子，於是季孫大夫對孔子生起很大的信心，並回憶起父親在臨終之前，囑咐一定要將孔子請回，於是派了公林、公華等大夫，以玉、馬、皮、圭、璧、帛等禮品，來迎孔子自衛返魯。
圖下方即是來迎的陣仗，孔子自離開魯國至今，共十四年而返，途中路過丘陵時，作了丘陵歌，歌詞隱藏的意思是說，仁道就在我們生活的周遭，追求它又像很遙遠，一般人迷惑，於是就不再去實踐，自然就造成困頓不順的遭遇，自己想推行仁道，但舉世滔滔，無足夠能力去除這些艱難的障礙，只有長嗟永嘆！又在回國途中經過隱谷，聞到陣陣幽香，孔子舉目四顧，看見幾叢幽蘭，與眾木為伍，心中十分感慨，便停車賞蘭，取琴作猗蘭操，托辭於香蘭，感慨君子雖生不逢時，但仍如幽谷蘭花，依然不失芬芳。
圖中上方孔子跪坐於席地上，寫著丘陵歌，畫家並配以丘陵的地形，一旁插手，正襟危坐於江邊席上，表情肅穆靜靜地看著孔子者，或為季康子派來迎請的大夫，後方有古琴及二人跪坐拱手，或是孔子的弟子。

28. Composes the “Song of the Hills”  
The painting is about Confucius composed the Song of the Hills. In the 37th year of King Jing of Zhou Dynasty; i.e. the 12th year of Duke Ai of Lu; 483 B.C. Kong Zi was 69 years old. He left Chu for Wei and waited there for five years. Instead of having a chance to serve in Wei, his time to return to Lu came. According to the chapter on “11th year of Duke Ai of Lu” in the Zuo Zhuan, State Qi attacked state Lu, 7,000 soldiers from the Ji-san family were enlisted in the left wing under the command of Ran Qiu. They won the battle with great success. Ji-san family’s Minister Ji Kang-zi asked about whether Ran Qiu was a gifted military talent or he learnt the ability somewhere. Ran Qiu said he learnt it from Confucius. Minister Ji Kang-zi was impressed by Confucius great capacities. He remembered his dying father had urged him to ask Confucius back. He sent Minister Gong Lin and Gong Hua to invite him back. They brought jades, horses, hides, jade tablets, circular jades and silks as welcome presents. At the lower part of the painting is Lu’s troop sent to escort Confucius home. Fourteen years elapsed since Confucius left Lu. He composed the “Song of Hills” on his way back. The lyric of the song connoted his aspiration about the practice of ren (benevolence). “The way of ren” seems so close to our life, but is far away to follow through. People became confused and gave up the practice of ren, and adversities followed naturally. If one wishes to enhance the practice of the way of ren, the troublous world was so full of obstacles to overcome. It’s a task out of his reach. What he could do was to sigh long. On the way to Lu, the party passed by a hidden valley, a secret resort. The fragrant orchids attracted Confucius’s attention: several bulbs of orchids grew among other trees. The scene has saddened him, he stopped the carriage, played music with guqin and composed the Song of Solitary Orchid and compares it with himself. The era was no good for a virtuous gentleman. Solitary orchids grew in hidden valley though can’t reveal their beauty to the world, their fragrance prevailed. Confucius sits on the ground, writing the Song of the Hills with hilly landscape as background. The man who with hands held under sleeves, straightened clothes, properly sat and looked at Confucius seriously might be a minister sent by Ji Kang-zi. A guqin is placed somewhere behind. Two men sat respectfully behind are probably Confucius’s disciples. 

28.作丘陵歌図
この作丘陵歌図は即ち周敬王三十七年、魯哀公十二年、紀元前四八三年、孔子六十九歳の時です。孔子は楚から衛に戻り、衛国に五年滞在しました。遅々として施政の機運には恵まれませんでしたが、魯に帰る機運がやって来ました。《左伝》によると、「魯哀公十一年、斉国が出兵して魯国を侵略した。その戦争で魯国季孫の兵は七千人で、左師は冉求が統帥するように編成して戦争に勝った。事後、季康子が冉求に『あなたの軍隊のことは学んだのか。それとも本能か』と尋ねた。冉求は『孔子に習った』と答えた。そこで季孫大夫は孔子に対して大きな信頼が起こり、父親が臨終の際に『必ず孔子に帰ってもらえ』と言いつけた言葉を思い出した。そして、公林や公華等の大夫を遣わし、玉、馬、皮、圭、璧、帛等の贈り物で、孔子を衛から魯に帰るように迎えにさせた」と記載されています。
絵の下の方は迎えの陣容で、孔子は魯国を離れて、現在に至るまで、十四年目にして帰ります。途中、丘陵を通る時、丘陵歌を作りました。歌詞には「仁道は私の生活の周辺にあり、それを追求することは非常に遠く、一般人は迷い、実践しようとしない。そこで自然に困窮不順に遭遇する。自分は仁道を推し進めようとしているが、世の中は滔々と流れ、これら困難な障害を取り除く能力が足りない。深いため息をつくしかない」の意味が隠されています。また帰国の途中で隠谷を通り、ほのかな香りをかぎました。孔子は四方を見渡して幽蘭の群れを見つけました。多くの樹木と仲間になり、心中十分に感慨を覚えました。そこで車を止めて蘭を愛で、琴を取り出して、猗蘭操を作りました。香蘭に託して、君子が生まれても逢えないが、幽谷の蘭のように、依然芳香を失っていないと感慨しました。
絵の上の方で、孔子は地面にひざまづき、丘陵歌を書いています。画家はまた丘陵の地形を配して、襟を正して川辺の席に座り、静粛な表情で見ている孔子、或いは季康子が迎えに派遣した大夫を挿絵で描いています。後方には琴と二人が座って、拱手していますが、或いは孔子の弟子かもしれません。
