17.不患人之不己知第20課

本集課程重點包括:

一、網路媒體時代,大家都想宣傳自己

人家不知道我,我就不會被人家所用,廣告自己、宣傳自己、被別人看到,才會有出路。尤其當自己學有所成,卻不為人所知,這是很苦惱的!

 

二、其實應該擔心的是,有沒有充實自己,不是有沒有被人看見

充實好自己的品德、服務的熱忱、學習的好奇心,多領域、有次第、與人切磋琢磨,又懂得挑戰困難,只要能力培養好,一定會被人家發掘,受到重視。所以不患人之不己知,要憂患的是自己還沒有準備好。

 

三、還要擔心的是,有沒有看懂別人

親近君子,遠離小人,前提是看懂誰是君子、誰是小人。包括結婚、事業、學習,甚至遊玩,各類交流合作的對象,都要先看清楚對方的品格、學問、能力。所以知人很重要,辦政治管理大眾的事,更要知人善任。

 

 

學而篇第十六章白話解釋

【經文】

子曰:不患人之不己知,患不知人也。

 

【白話解釋】

孔子說:不要憂患別人不知道我,但憂患我不能知人。學為君子,有道而人不知,道不能行,屬於天命,無可憂患。若我不能知人,實為大憂患。不知人的話,為領袖者得不到賢才,求學者得不到良師益友,因為他分辨不了賢愚,對於賢者不能親近、任用,對於不賢者不能遠離、退避,是非常大的禍患。

 

【章旨】

勉人務實,不貪虛名。

 

 

《論語講要》原文

患是憂患。不患人不知我,但患我不能知人。學為君子,有道而人不知,道不能行,屬於天命,無可憂患。若我不能知人,實為大患。為領袖者不得賢才,求學者不得良師益友,以其賢愚莫辨之故,是以為患。

「患不知人也。」釋文作「患不知也。」皇疏:「王肅曰,但患己之無能知也。」

The Master said, “I will not be afflicted at men's not knowing me; I will be afflicted that I do not know men.”

 

 

Highlights of this lecture include:

1. In the Internet or new media age, everyone is trying to reach a good online presence

  Nowadays, everyone uses social media to promote themselves, to become noticeable, to be connected, and to enhance personal career growth. What a distress could it be, especially for those very learned, talented and capable persons who could not make their icons known nor able to gain popularity in the wider society,

 

2. In fact, people should worry about not learning well enough to be visible.

  Personal attainment throughout the process of self-cultivation should be our lifetime aim. To focus self-cultivation on: step by step learning, study thoroughly in various disciplines, to foster virtuous personality, eager to learn and to serve, and be ready to face challenges. As long as ones’ abilities have been developed, ones would surely be visible and valued. Therefore, ones will not be afflicted at men not knowing oneself; one will be afflicted that if one do not have the ability ready for future use.

 

3. I will be afflicted that I do not know men of their personality and integrity

  If we are to implement: “get close to junzi (gentleman of complete virtue), stay away from petty men xiaoren (men of inferior virtue)”, first of all, we need to have the ability to know, to distinguish between the two. It required the ability with which one can tell other’s personality, scholarship and capability in all kinds of exchanges and cooperation including events such as marriage, career, study, and even leisure. Get the right person for the right place in managing the public affairs is essential for good governance. Therefore, it is very important to have the wisdom of knowing people.
